My Thoughts On Easter

Hello everyone! I have been on temporary hiatus, because let’s be honest, sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day! Between traveling, auditions, rehearsals and shows I have not been able to make blogging a priority! Be on the lookout for some life updates coming soon, but for now, enjoy this little post about Easter!

Easter is one of my favorite holidays, second only to Christmas. Besides the religious connotations, which are very important to me, Easter is all about renewal. There is something about it that serves as a reminder that every morning we wake up and are in charge of who we will be. The possibilities are truly endless!

Another thing I love about Easter, is that it is the holiday of florals! This year I wore this gorgeous Lilly Pulitzer dress that I scored during last summers after party sale. The pink flowers are so beautiful and springy!

I hope that you all had a lovely and relaxing Easter!

Lilly Pulitzer All Nighter Shorts!

Even though I’ve been sick for a couple of days, I’ve been soaking up every last bit of summer, and one of my favorite ways to do that is by wearing some fab Lilly shorts! Some of you might remember these fun shorts from my Instagram post (@MsVictoriaAR) celebrating my last day of being a teenager. These shorts were just crying out to be paired with confetti!

All Nighter5

I had been nervous to buy a pair of Lilly shorts because I wasn’t sure how they would fit, or which model I would like. During the After Party Sale however, I finally took a leap of faith and got two pairs of buttercup shorts!

All Nighter1

The first ones I got were in Pink Colony (be on the lookout for a post about those very soon!) and I actually hadn’t seen this pair my first time around. My mom and I had decided to divide and conquer, and she asked me if I had seen, “the flamingo shorts.” I was confused, since she knew that I had bought another pair, but when she sent me a screenshot, I was ecstatic! I love the print, “All Nighter,” and actually preferred it in a pair of shorts rather than the shift since it is a larger pattern.

I paired these happy little shorts with my breezy and comfy yellow H&M tank, Jacks, and this absolutely adorable Kendra Scott necklace!!

What are some of your favorite outfits t squeeze in to the last few days of summer?

Turning Twenty!

As I approached the big 2-0 I’ve been feeling such a strange mix of emotions. One half of me feels like this is rather impossible. Didn’t I just get my braces off? Wasn’t my bang phase just last week?! It’s really kind of insane how old 20 seems. I’ve been dealing with some of my usual, “Pre-Birthday Anxiety,” which has crept up on me since the year I turned 15. Let me explain what exactly my PBA is. Basically I’ve always been a perfectionist. I had a set plan for my life and a schedule to stick to. I set really lofty and sort of insane goals for myself when I was a little girl. I was supposed to be driving, get a boyfriend, and wearing makeup daily when I was sixteen. I still don’t have my licence, and have only taken to wearing makeup the past couple of years.

Then I was supposed to get married by eighteen… What on earth was I thinking?! I met my boyfriend right after turning 19. He is so amazing and I’m so lucky to have found such a sweet boy, but we aren’t in a hurry to get hitched. We understand that our education is so important, and we are enjoying dating each other. Speaking of education, so many of what I thought were shortcomings have to do with education. I was supposed to be out of the house and living in a cool apartment somewhere by now. I went to a big state university when I was 17, and I hated it. I became very sad and unmotivated, and at one point even music seemed pointless. I wasn’t attending church and felt very alone. I came home and have been attending my local college. While this felt like a failure in my eyes, it has been so good for me! I have a job at a beautiful church, I am president of an amazing choir, and I have made so many fantastic friends. I may not have achieved my crazy goals in the time period I used to think was appropriate, but I am SO proud of who I am. I am a strong woman who survived and grew from her sadness. I am a published author of poetry and prose. I am an award-winning young soprano. I am a loving and compassionate friend.

So why did I write this? I wrote this for everyone who has read “20 things you should do before…” or “15 must dos by..” article. Don’t give yourself absolutes. Create attainable goals that mean something. Becoming me has been a long journey. There were moments I thought that I couldn’t continue. That life was too hard. But those moments of sadness and self-doubt, are dwarfed by the number of times I have been overwhelmed by how God has blessed me. Sunsets, Disney World fireworks, running barefoot in the snow. Going on a mission trip was totally not in my original plan, but it was a life altering experience, and better than what my plan was.Thank you to my family for passing on your values and guiding me down the right path. Thank you to my friends for opening up my eyes to new points of view. Thank you to those who have been less than kind for building up my resilience. Basically, thank you to anyone who has had any involvement in my life! Although the fact that I hit the two decade mark today is still daunting, I am all in all very proud of who I am, and who I am in the process of becoming! -PS

Stop and Smell the Flowers!

I don’t always wear shorts, but when I do, I make sure to find matching flowers!

StopAndSmell5

These hot pink shorts are one of my favorite summer clothing items! The wider leg makes them oh so flattering, and the pretty little pleats give them a girly flair.

StopAndSmell2

I paired them with this little striped top for an effortless outfit that is perfect for those moments when you just have to stop and smell the flowers. It’s been so hot lately, so of course, Jacks were a must!

Let’s get real for a second ladies. Although I adore my long curls, when it’s 93 degrees outside I’m tempted to chop it all off! Instead of going to drastic lengths, I beat the heat with this sweet little bun. It ended up looking a little like Elsa’s coronation hair-do. If only it came with her icy powers!

StopAndSmell1

Although we can’t all cause a mid-summer cold spell, I made a little list of five ways to stay cool!

  1. Make sure to stay hydrated! I know that everyone says this, but it’s seriously the ultimate life hack! If you’re bored of plain old water, try making a yummy fruit infused water!
  2. Wear your hair up. There are tons of cute and simple ways to keep your hair off of your neck!
  3. If you have access to a pool, use it! Just don’t forget the sunscreen!
  4. Try making some popsicles. Sure you can just pop into the store and buy some, but kitchen experiments are always fun!
  5. And finally if you can’t beat it, make a list of what you enjoy about it! Focus on the fact that summer means pretty flowers, summer clothes, ice-cream cones, and less responsibilities!

How do you beat the heat? -PS
